Ruthin Vale Country Club Wedding Photographer
Often, I find I am photographing many venues for the first time. Not too many of them are on my doorstep though. I thought I had visited every wedding venue around North Wales and Chester… But hidden away in Ruthin, with a spectacular backdrop of the Clwydian Range is the Vale Country Club. This was the first wedding I photographed at this venue and I didn’t leave disappointed!
My day started at St Mary’s Church in Mold… where it sadly was raining. Daniel had already arrived by this point and parked his beloved Mini Cooper at the church. I awaited Lisa’s arrival expecting the usual white Bentley or Roll’s, but I was in for a surprise! Lisa pulled up in her Dad’s restored Robin Reliant. Thankfully by this point, the rain had stopped and Lisa’s dress could stay clean and dry for a little longer.
If you have never been to St Mary’s Church in Mold, go and check out the stained glass windows inside. They are huge!!! After the ceremony I brought Dan and Lisa back inside the church for a couple of photographs in front of the amazing windows.
Dan drove himself and his beautiful new bride to the Vale Country Club in Ruthin in his Mini, sadly battling the rain again. With the views over the venue, it would have been such a shame not to have these in Dan and Lisa’s wedding pictures… So we took our chances between rain showers to capture all the family shots and bride & groom photos. We were greeted by an amazing sound! No it wasn’t the sound of any more vintage cars, but it was the sound of a Welsh male voice choir. They were fantastic!!
Oh I should mention at this point… Lisa’s sister and bridesmaid has to be the most organised person I have ever met. Wherever and whenever I needed someone to be ready for photos, she was on it! That job offer still stands Laura if you’re reading this haha!
The evening reception… Well lets be honest.. Everyone had found the bar a long time ago and were all clearly enjoying themselves. Before first dance, I thought that we may try something a little different with Dan’s Mini for a photograph. Out came the flashes and smoke bomb, and boom! Scroll down for the result.
Here are a few of my favourites from Dan and Lisa’s special day.
Thornton Manor Wedding Photographer
Wow I have really neglected my blog posts this year!! 65 weddings and a 1 year old have meant I have had less time to keep on top of these.
So… Here is the amazing wedding of Alex and Kate who were married at Our Lady & St John RC Church in Heswall, and held their wedding reception at Thornton Manor. For anyone who has never been to Thornton Manor.. Have a Google.. Go and check out the history. This place is amazing and everything a wedding venue should be! Kate and Alex’s wedding was in the actual manor house, with so many photo opportunities surrounding us inside and out.
Kate and her bridesmaids got ready at Kate’s parents home. Genuinely one of the nicest, welcoming families I have met… Oh and a cat called Monkey! He has even managed to get in on some of the wedding pictures. Kate looked stunning in her wedding dress, and Alex being in the RAF, chose to wear his number 1’s.. and even brought his sword! How cool is that!? The weather….. well it wasn’t kind, but Kate, Alex and their families weren’t going to let a bit of Wirral rain bother them! Off we went outside for some family photographs followed by some bride and groom portraits around Thornton Manor.
Once we had decided that we had taken enough of a beating from the wind and rain, we carried on inside for a few final images before Kate and Alex sat down for their meal in the music room. Wow this room is immense! I mean seriously!! The architecture blew me away.
Every wedding has to have a theme, and Kate and Alex being massive lovers of books went for a literacy theme. Every table had its own book for a table name and we even got a bit quirky later on in the evening, carrying on with the book theme.
After the meal (which was delicious!), typically the rain had stopped! But the daylight had gone. Not to worry… Back off outside we went to capture some night-time images before first dance. Talking of the first dance, I had spotted a small balcony I could shoot from, and then the DJ also had a smoke machine to make it look like Kate and Alex were dancing in the clouds.
Oh, and keep an eye out for some of the dance moves on display…..i’ll let you make your own minds up on whether its a 10 from Len!!
So much love for this wedding and Thornton Manor, and I could go on and on… But I have about another 50 blog posts to write!
Here are a small selection of images from Kate and Alex’s day at Thornton Manor.
Queen Hotel Chester Wedding Photographer
I had been to this venue loads of times for events and parties, but never actually had the pleasure of photographing a wedding here. Needless to say I was delighted when Craig and Susanne asked me to photograph their big day at the Queen Hotel, Chester. As soon as you are greeted at the door by the friendly staff and one of the best staircases I have ever seen, you know its going to be a good day!
Craig and Susanne were married in January so opted for an indoor ceremony, but the Queen Hotel can also accommodate for outdoor ceremonies. Indoors or outdoors, you will have a beautiful ceremony whichever you choose.
I started the day capturing some of Susanne’s hair and makeup photographs at the venue and finished just after first dance… Be warned before you scroll down to the pictures.. There was some serious commitment and dance moves on display by Craig and Susanne’s guests. The day was full of emotion and tears from start to end (mainly from the bridesmaids!), and so many happy smiles throughout from everyone.
During the evening, I was able to take Craig and Susanne around the hotel for some evening portraits. The huge light fixture in reception was perfect for these..oh and also those amazing stairs that I mentioned! Craig and his groomsmen weren’t quite finished with their photos yet though.. As is tradition with most weddings now, the groom must have a celebratory cigar on his wedding day so we popped outside for a cool looking cigar photo.
Here are a few of my favourites from Craig and Susanne’s wedding at the Queen Hotel Chester.

Ruthin Castle Wedding Photographer
This was the first wedding I had the pleasure of photographing at Ruthin Castle. Situated high within the North Wales landscape, Ruthin Castle is an absolute corker of a venue, whether you are having a small intimate wedding, or a huge gathering with an amazing medieval banquet wedding breakfast to match!
Becky and Steve had a small but perfect wedding, with their closest family and friends who had all made the trip up to Ruthin from the Midlands.
North Wales weather isn’t glorious at the best of times, and although the sun shone over Ruthin Castle, let me tell you it was flipping freezing! Not a single complaint from Becky in her beautiful wedding dress though!
I arrived in the morning at Ruthin Castle for Becky’s make-up shots and also to capture some candid moments of Steve with his family and friends around him in the bar. I could have stayed in the bar area all day.. A photographers dream! Huuuuuge windows letting in masses of natural light. I wouldn’t expect anything less from a castle as grand as Ruthin Castle.
Following the ceremony, we went straight outside for family photographs, before taking Steve and Becky out for their Bride and Groom portraits in Ruthin Castle’s stunning gardens! We didn’t stay out too long due to the risk of hypothermia, and it was soon time for Steve and Becky’s wedding breakfast. I’ve seen many table centres before such as huge martini glasses, gold fish bowls, bird cages.etc but this was the first time I had seen 90’s board games as a table centre! There were Hungry Hippo’s, Pop-up Pirates and more! I wish I could have stayed longer.
Anyway……Here are a selection of some of my favourite photos from Steve and Becky’s brilliant wedding day at Ruthin Castle.

Plas Hafod Hotel Wedding Photographer
Steven and Alison were married at the Plas Hafod Hotel in October 2016. By now, if you read my blogs you’ll see how popular the Plas Hafod Hotel is and why I love photographing there. The gardens are always immaculate and Collette, Simon and their team work tirelessly to make sure your day runs without hiccup.
I arrived at the Plas Hafod Hotel for Alison’s bridal prep photographs, where the beautiful bride and her 3 beautiful bridesmaids were all getting ready. Alison is one of the calmest brides I have ever worked with, and even on the morning of the wedding she was making table decorations, and getting in a some cheeky sambuca shots before walking down the aisle!
One of my favourite photographs I have ever taken was during Steven and Alison’s wedding… If you scroll down you will see their son Warren walking Alison down the aisle with his toy dinosaur. I just love the smiles across both of their faces… Alison so happy to have her son giving her away, and Warren so happy to have his toy dinosaur make it to the wedding!
Daylight was limited as it was late October, so we did do some shots during the evening to make sure everything was covered; from family photos, candid shots and bride and groom portraits. To be honest, I’m not even sure if the guests noticed we had gone, as everyone was so busy having such a good time inside with the Blackjack and Roulette tables!
Here are a selection of some of my favourite photos from Steven and Alison’s wedding at the Plas Hafod Hotel.
